Attic Insulation

Fibreglass insulation is one of the most cost effective methods of insulating your attic. If it’s a situation that you attic has not be insulated, or has not been insulated in the last 5-10 years, then it’s most likely that your roof is not up to standards and is losing a huge amounts of energy also. At minimum, it’s a requirement that you have 300mm or 12 inches of fibreglass on the ceiling space.

This depth should not be compromised in any way by being squashed or removed to accommodate attic storage. The depth of the insulation combined with the quality of the product will determine how well your house will retain heat.

Fibreglass should be rolled in two layers where possible, first between joists then in the opposite direction over joists to avoid any heat escaping.

If the homeowner would like to retain a storage area in the attic, OCI Insulation can facilitate this by raising the floor joists to accommodate 300mm of insulation. One of our surveyors will call out to assess your property and to offer advice on your insulation and ventilation requirements. The insulation work generally takes about half a day to complete.

Grants are available for carrying out these insulation works on your house. Please check our grant section or talk to us for advice and ensure that grants are applied for before works are carried out.
